Start With Hope: Resources for Individuals, Loved Ones, and Providers

In 2023, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, along with its partners at the CDC, Ad Council, and Shatterproof, launched Start With Hope. The project inspires individuals who identify as Black or Hispanic/Latinx and who are at risk for or living with a substance use disorder to begin their paths to wellbeing and recovery by connecting them with harm reduction strategies and treatment resources.

In 2024, they’ve expanded Start With Hope, and added new resources for individuals at risk for living with SUDs, their loved ones, and the dedicated providers who support them.

Resources include the following:
Overdose Risk Assessment Tool: A Guide for Loved Ones and Allies;
Providing Culturally Responsive LGBTQ+ Affirming Care Guide;
Substance Use Treatment Resource Guide;
Tips for Finding Whole-Person Health, Substance Use, and Mental Health Care;
Bridging Voices (fotonovela);
Paths of Hope (fotonovela);
• and many more!
